Egg White Salad: Observing Bill Attempt to Cook

May 16, 2013

This past weekend I witnessed Bill walk into the kitchen and state that he was going to make a salad.  Intrigued, I stuck my head in and watched him start to prepare it.  He turned, reached into the fridge and pulled out a glass that had a clearish liquid in it.  I knew what it was, but I figured I’d wait to see if he knew.

Into a bowl went mixed greens, chopped apple, tomato, and then he reached for the glass container.  Not wanting him to waste perfectly good food I inquired what he was doing.  He responded, “I’m using some of your lemon juice, is that cool?”  To which I responded, “that’s fine Bill, but you’re about to pour egg whites on your salad.”  “Oh…whoops” he responded.

You see, since this jar was in the fridge next to a lemon, Bill assumed that it was in turn filled with lemon juice (through osmosis I presume?).  It’s times like this that I have to thank Bill for being so oblivious and incompetent in the kitchen, in the nicest way of course, because this site would not be what it is without him.

In the end he didn’t pour egg whites on his salad (sorry internet) but he seemed remotely pleased with the salad that he made for himself, so I suppose this counts as a win win.
